Frequently Asked Questions
I've never had a massage before, what should I expect?
All clients receive a consultation prior to treatment, during which you will be asked to give information about any medical conditions, medication or previous treatment. This will enable me to tailor the treatment to ensure that you gain the most benefit. You will then be asked to undress. (Except for Thai massage, when you will remain fully clothed) I usually ask my clients to strip to their underwear and you are then asked to lie down on the couch before you are covered in towels to keep you warm. During the treatment, I usually play background music and you are welcome to chat to me or just relax in silence! Everyone has their own preference!
Who can have massage?
My clients vary from children right up to people in their 90s, showing that a huge range of people can benefit from massage! There are some cases when massage is contra-indicated, for example if the client has Cardio-vascular disease. In these cases, the client should consult their doctor first. However, in general, anyone and everyone can benefit from massage. Prior to treatment, the client receives a consultation so any concerns may be discussed and the massage is tailored ensure that they receive the most benefit.
How will I feel after a massage?
It varies from person to person. (The most common response in “Ah, that was lovely!”) Depending on the type of treatment you have requested, you may feel energised or relaxed-and anything in between! It is important, however, for clients to note that they may have symptoms such as headache or tiredness the day after a massage. This is known as the 'Healing reaction' and is a perfectly normal, healthy response by the body to the increase in circulation. It shows that your body is working to flush the toxins out of your body and for this reason, it is important to drink plenty of water after a massage to aid this process and reduce the likelihood of you experiencing these symptoms. If you have been having deep massage, or you are already in pain before you arrive, you may feel a bit tender or stiff afterwards. However, this should pass after a day or so, as your body heals itself.
I've got a bad back. Can you fix it?
I don't claim to be able to “fix” or “cure” anyone, but in the majority of cases, massage will certainly help, easing the pain caused by muscle spasm and helping you to de-stress. I aim to treat my clients holistically, so, as well as providing massage treatment, I also try to advise on ways in which the client can help to improve their condition through simple lifestyle changes, for example, regular stretching exercises when working at a computer.
Can I bring my child for treatment?
Yes. For children under 16, parental permission is required and a parent should be present for the treatment.
Do you do gift vouchers?
Yes. You can treat someone to a 30, 60, 90 or 120 minute treatment for which they will receive a voucher and a greetings card. Vouchers will be marked with an expiry date (2 months from purchase)
I'm pregnant, can I still have a massage?
Yes. I am trained in pregnancy massage You will be massaged in either a side-lying or semi-reclined position, meaning your body is fully supported and you can just relax and enjoy your treatment.
I have Cancer. I've been told I can't have a massage...
I am trained to treat people living with Cancer and I strongly believe that it is more important than ever to receive massage at this time if possible. I would be working closely with the other health professionals involved in your treatment to ensure that you receive the appropriate care from me.
